Cast Iron Cooking has been with us for thousands of years, going back to ancient China. Today's enamel cast iron cookware has been improved greatly over the years. They are made of a mixture of two or more metals, or of a metal with a nonmetallic material that give additional strength to the cookware. Today there are cast iron pieces of cookware with colorful porcelain enamel exterior and interior finishes. Cast Iron currently is used for pieces that include skillets, cast iron roasters, cast iron dutch ovens, broilers, griddles, and some specialty items, such as muffin and corn bread pans. These cookware pieces and even a cast iron cookware set are excellent for browning, frying, stewing and baking foods.
